IPL Photofacials: Are They Right For You?

IPL Photofacials: Are They Right For You?

If we told you that a magic wand existed that could smooth, tighten, shrink pores, and minimize sun spots and acne scars, would you believe us?

Well, magic wands don’t exist but the revolutionary technology that can give you those incredible results does!

If you’re looking to rewind the hands of time and erase years of aging with a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment, an IPL Photofacial is just what you need!

What Is An IPL Photofacial?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The IPL Photofacial Treatment uses light energy to heat the upper layers of the skin to regenerate skin cells and stimulate collagen production.

Why Is Collagen Important?

Collagen is a protein in our skin that keeps it tight, plump and wrinkle-free.

As we age, we lose the ability to produce collagen and elastin (about 2% per year starting at 20 years old) which is why we start to see wrinkles and sagging skin.

This is why you never see children and teenagers with wrinkles! Because their collagen production is moving at full force!

Treatments, such as IPL Photofacials, are beneficial to kick-starting your natural collagen production and giving you the chance to go filter-free in your selfies!

Benefits Of IPL Photofacials

We mentioned above that IPL Photofacials help to stimulate collagen, and tighten and smooth out the skin, but it does much more!

Here is what can be treated with an IPL Photofacial

  • Uneven skin texture
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Birthmarks
  • Age or Sun spots
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Discolored skin
  • Acne scars
  • Freckles

What To Expect During An IPL Photofacial

As we said in the beginning, IPL Photofacials are non-invasive and non-surgical treatments that utilize light technology for the treatment.

To prepare for your treatment we recommend discontinuing any retinol and prescriptions that cause light sensitivity prior to treatment. You should also come with a clean, makeup-free face. You’ll also want to avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for a few days before the treatment to avoid burning or injuring your skin.

Before the actual treatment begins, you’ll be given eyewear to protect your eyes from the light, and a cool, cleansing gel will be applied to the treatment area.

This is meant to protect the skin and allow the handpiece to move more easily across the surface.

The treatment can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes and although virtually painless, it may feel like you’re getting snapped by a small rubber band.

After IPL

After the treatment, you may also feel like your skin is sunburned, but that is just from the intense light penetrating the skin and should subside within a few hours. Redness and some swelling might also occur which will go away within hours as well.

You should avoid direct sunlight and exfoliating facial treatments for 1 week after the Photofacial as well as avoiding any products with harsh chemicals.

You’ll start to see the result of the treatment right away but your optimal result will reveal itself about a week after.

To continue getting the best results, you’ll want to get 3-6 IPL Photofacials. After that, you can go every 6 months to a year for maintenance!
