How Often Do You Need Laser Hair Removal?

Shaving. Just the word alone makes us groan with annoyance.

From a young age, we started shaving our legs, underarms, and any unsightly or unwanted body hair.

But you know once you start shaving, you never stop and it’s something you do almost every day (except in the winter!)

Shaving, depilatory creams, waxing, tweezing and other forms of hair removal all do their jobs for a little, but the hair grows back and we are back to square one again.

If shaving is more of a hassle and you want to find a better solution, laser hair removal is a great option.

What Happens During Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is the process of destroying the hair follicles so that no hair is able to grow back.

When we shave, wax, or tweeze, we are only removing hair from the surface or pulling the hair out of the follicle. This doesn’t destroy the follicle which causes the hair to regrow.

The only way to ensure that hair will not grow back is to eliminate the entire follicle.

This is what laser hair removal does. During the hair removal process, a handheld device that contains the laser is moved along the body. The laser emits a light (light energy) that is absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair. The energy is converted to heat which damages and destroys the hair follicle.

This process is virtually painless, but you may feel a slight heat or tingling sensations from the laser. Your skin will not be damaged or injured either because of how precise the laser technology is.

Each treatment varies in length depending on the body parts being treated. For example, facial hair can be treated in a few minutes while larger areas like your back and legs can take up to an hour.

Depending on the growth stage of the hair and follicles multiple treatments (typically between 6-12 per area) will be needed to eliminate all the unwanted hair. Your treatments will be scheduled a few weeks apart to allow the previous treatment area to heal.

Laser Hair Removal: Results

After your first session, you’ll find that the hair grows back thinner and lighter. This is just the beginning of the process!

It is also recommended that you stay out of direct sunlight for a few weeks while you heal as you are more photosensitive!

Once your treatment plan is over, your hair won’t fall out immediately but the hair will fall out and after every session, there is less and less coming back.

You’ll start to notice areas of shedding and then within a few weeks, you’ll have a smooth and hair-free surface!

Once the process is complete, you’ll be able to enjoy smooth, hair-free skin forever
